Icicles alone do not describe the whole problem. More useful signals are a gutter packed with ice, water backing behind the eaves, repeat freeze-thaw buildup and ice concentrated below a roof valley or downspout.
Treat active leaking as the priority
If water is already appearing on ceilings, walls or around windows, describe it as an active leak rather than a cosmetic ice-removal request. That helps providers triage the call and bring the right equipment.
Do not create a falling-ice hazard
Large roof-edge ice can fall unpredictably. Keep people and vehicles away from the drop zone and avoid striking overhead ice from below. Send ground-level photos and the approximate roof height when requesting help.
