Before the first major event, identify where snow can be stacked without blocking accessible spaces, fire routes, hydrants, loading zones, intersections or drainage. The larger the site, the more valuable a marked site plan becomes.
Separate plowing from ice control
Plowing removes bulk snow; de-icing manages residual snowpack and refreeze. Treating them as separate workstreams helps define when each is dispatched and which high-risk areas receive priority.
Know when stacking turns into hauling
Snow piles consume parking capacity and can create sightline or drainage problems. A hauling trigger can be based on lost parking, pile height, blocked storage zones or an approaching thaw. Defining that trigger before the lot is full makes emergency hauling less likely.
